WE

We planted where petals fell
Because we looked into the skies,
not the wells
We harvested where scavengers dwell
Our focus was on living things
not grimy death
We plucked where gods ate
We said to ourselves we deserve the cream
not just a dream
We laid where others fell
Our hope was in the Resurrection
not the intermission
We laughed where others wept
Our tear drops were for joy
not sorrow's toy
We floated where Marines sunk
The sea was our skating ring
not a living thing
We lived, we grew, we aspired
We transcended, we ascended
We acquired, we maintained
And so shall it remain
We are who we are
The awakening after the dream!

GOING THE MILE

Kisses from afar lips don't touch
Blowing bubbles from my heart
Pouting lips with lovers breath
So If we can love from afar
We learn to be closer

A staring role in my video calls
The leading lady, a round of applause
Half way around the world seem far
But when we cut through the globe
It's a straight line into the heart

Kisses from afar hips scintillating
What the hands don't feel the heart vibrate
Shouting hearts that oscillate
We are closer yet... so far.

I HATE YOUR LETTERS

My soul will not rest
because I carry a burden
You see I wake up every morning with more
questions than answers.
Because every day is supposed to be a blessing
but my people remain cursed.
My race left all the winnings on the tracks
but we are hardly trail blazing fields!
Described as the "Dark" Continent and if our skin is black,
then that's a pun too dark.

For my people to go through A to Z
They have to deal with I.M.F and all the other letters
They spell out who we are and what we can do
Same letters that have us written off
To them, we are alphabetically basic

Fat suits in Geneva and Washington
Dictating policies for Accra and Lagos
Tell the UN I hate all her sister names
Some trifling sons of bitches!
Mogadishu is on my heart even when I
am a Tamale-born Ashanti from Kokofu

Africans writing their people off
The very people that piss me off
So I am sick and tired of letters
UN, IMF, ILO et cetera
So I wish I could write this with numbers
The figures of dying African children and
The percentages that represent the poor.
