LIFE'S FEAST

I have tasted both success and failure
They both left a taste on my tongue
One made me desire the other
For when I had failed I was blue
Coiled up in emotions hot and stewed
For what inspires shortly perspires
And the inspiration becomes the agitation
The aspirant's frustration an education
I wrote pieces that were clearer than resolutions
Because the end of the year left me delusioned
For when I succeded hugging the summit
It was rather the beginning of the plummet
On my cloud nine sun-rayed and aired
To kiss the feet of pride at the sole of nadir
I brushed shoulders with past kings,
Angels damned with clipped wings
Heaven so far from an African prince
Depths so deep one cannot fall
Bone crushing presure you need to crawl
I have seen it all rich and poor, the latter the more
I have met angels in the lowest of low arrow and sword
Beings that ripped their own wings to see me soar
I have met demons in the highest of highs
Who prayed with me and speared my side
Dream catchers that sell doubt to soil my pride
Crossed strangers that showed strange affection
That spared no tongue and tooth to give me a bite
People that called me brother and screamed out my fight
Engaged fair ladies that ripped chest to share hearts's thirst
They themselves troubled but laid me inbetween their breast
A son so parted from the mother's bossom could not wean
But on these glands they comfort me as a grown man weeps
So I have tasted both success and failure
I shared the two feasts with those that I call mates-
Schoolmates, flatmates, sports mates, heart mates.
There is more on my plate but I will not choke
Because I found family in the people in these quotes.
